Sep 12th, 2008: Hi I took a cosmos tour - it was called the Jewels of Italy It was a trip of a lifetime. I have traveled to many places , Jamica , Saint Martin the Virgin Islands , all over Mexico just to name a few and I have never seen a place more beautiful than Italy !! I saw Rome , Tuscant , Siena ,Naples , the Isle of Capri ,sorrento , Florence , Assisi ,Vennice ,Pisa ,Verona Pompeii ,San Marino ,ECT......... I have been home for a month and Italy is all I can think of. I had a lot of free time to explore on my own and I did not have a problem I even went out at night and didnt feel threatened at all.Italy and it,s people are vibrant and warm . Sep 3rd, 2008: On our 1 day trip ,the wonderful beauty and history of Venice was ruined for me , by having to stand up all the time,in the main square, whilst hundreds of cafe chairs sat empty and not allowed to be used unless you buy. No where did i find a public toilet,and we were not allowed to use the hotel and shop toilets, and hawkers constantly harrassed us. Where do the hawkers find toilets? Sep 2nd, 2008: Got back from Rome two weeks ago, and I have to say the place is breathtaking. Every little alleyway we walked down seemed to bring us out to a beautiful building, fountain or square. The Colleseum is a must do for anyone like me who loves history, pity Russel Crowe wasn't there! The Vatican is a must do too. Words can't justify how wonderful this place is. St Peter's basillica and the Sistine chappel are just a few of the many delights here. Food was delicious, people warm and friendly, although the Italian men, including the policemen, were very flirtatious, but I wasn't complaining! I've only watched the video podcast and I think it is fantastic! Our plan is to fly to Milan, stay in Modena (since we have friends there) for a few days and from there take day trips (or longer) to some places, not sure which, expect Venice is a certainty. From Modena we are going to take the train down to Rome so that video on Rome was very useful. So obviously, I'd love to see video podcasts on Venice, Milan and other places in that area. I went to your site for some good travel information and I have to say I am very disappointed that your website has NO information on Reggio!? Not even the region of Calabria!? Reggio is a beautiful city, home of the 'most beautiful kilometer in Italy'. How can you not include it as part of your site? Reggio may not have the big monuments but it is rich in culture and beauty. Now that I am at another school with a second opportunity to work as chaparone with another teacher, the site is even more helpful with the audio and video clips for MP3s and iPods. I plan to do an LCD hook up in my classroom and share this website information with the students before we travel. Nov 25th, 2007: my husband was in the american airforce stationed in naples from 1990 to 1991. It was the worst assignment we ever had. A complete nightmare!! so much so, he received a humanitarian reassignment 7 months after we arrived. The congressman from Oregon at that time said living conditions were so bad for families, that the military needed to make the tour strictly for single guys....no families!! The italians were a bunch of thieves. We had loads of our household goods stolen. We lived in the town of Pinetamare, and our kids could not go onto the beach because it was so filthy. The military built a new housing area after we left, but my father was in italy during world war 2, and he said it hadnt changed at all. The italians made our lives back then a living hell. Oct 11th, 2007: I have just returned from the most wonderful 2-week holiday in Italy. A friend and I visited Rome, Sienna, Florence, the Cinque Terre, Bellagio in Lake Como and Venice. Each place had it's special appeal, but we loved Sienna, Florence, Riomaggiore and Bellagio. I cannot wait to return to some places already seen but also to visit new ones.
